We recently received the following contribution from one of our Canadian readers, Petrina:
Petrina credits the original artwork of this beetle to New York City-based artists and illustrato ZSO, aka Sarah Blake, whose website ZSO highlights her phenomenal work.
The tattoo was created by MelanieWayland of Mel's Tattoos in Goderich, Ontario, Canada.

Conspiracy summer
Just so you don't think these past few weeks have been all about black metal and art shows, here are some random shots of what everyone has been up to. Not enough, but hey, we've been too busy to take pictures, dammit!
Me and Allan went undercover to pick up Nick at the airport earlier this month
Our disguises were almost too successful, cause he literally did not recognize us
Lucifer is also a master of disguise!
Here's Allan and Matthew having one of many consultations... this however was the only outdoor one (but probably not the only one that involved milkshakes!)
A kitty eating a sandwich, by Electric Pick
Nick did paintings of me and Allan, and Matthew did one of Nick, so he wouldn't be too jealous
Milkshakes and bubble tea during the mini heatwave... also, Allan in shorts!!
Chihuahua of Denmark by Matthew Gordon
Half a backpiece in one session, by Wendy Pham
Oh hey, don't forget to stop our merch page and order a sweet limited black metal t-shirt!
Super limited, super awesome
Spodee. Wine With a Kick!
I recently got to try a new beverage, produced by White Mule Farms.
It's called Spodee and is, indeed, "wine with a kick".
I'm more of a beer guy, but I will drink wine from time to time with my oenophile wife.
Spodee is based on the legend of "a Depression era hooch that mixed up homemade country wines with garden herbs, spices and moonshine."
I enjoyed the bottle I had, which was a hearty 36 proof mule kick that was a sweet treat indeed. The bottle described it as "grape wine with natural chocolate flavor," and it certainly came across strong. My wife took a sip and crinkled her nose, expressing her distaste. Bad for her, good for me! I didn't have to share any of my Spodee!
I like it because it is different, and I love the old-timey milk bottle Spodee comes in.
Spodee is only on sale in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, but it can be acquired through mail order to open states (here).
We don't endorse a lot of hooch here on the pages of Tattoosday, but Spodee is definitely worth a try!
Check out more about Spodee below.

Faces of total awesomeness
Man, it sure is going slow with the blogging these days (my personal blog is suffering even worse than this one), but there's nothing slow about August at the shop!
We have a house full of awesome guests and guest artists, and on top of that, we had the black metal art show on Saturday, and seriously, just wow... i can't even express how awesome that was, and how grateful we are to the people (many people!) that showed up.
Thank you!
We had such a fun evening, and it was such a pleasure showing Allan's paintings, and our redecorated-for-the-occasion shop, to friends and clients and total strangers alike.
Ok, so the first half hour or so, i was taking pictures non stop with three different cameras, hell bent on documenting the occasion, but then people started to drink... and obviously i was in charge of keeping the beers coming while Allan and Lucifer mingled, so all of a sudden, the documenting kinda stopped!
So you'll just have to take my word for it; the shop and sidewalk was totally packed, and people seemed to have fun, like at a real party! Only with an all black metal soundtrack, of course. So yeah, who cares if i didn't get that many pictures.
In a way it was almost like we got to have the opening party we never got around to throwing two years ago, cause stuff kept going wrong back then. I hope it won't be our last party!
Pictures of all the paintings are gonna be up on Allan's blog real soon (i think he's in the process of editing now) and those that aren't sold yet will be for sale, so check up on that soon.
We also have a few t-shirts left from our very limited run made just for the show, and they'll be for sale too soon!
Update: t-shirts are up on the merch blog NOW!
Ok, pictures!
The paintings are up until the end of the week, then we'll start getting the shop back to normal, so if you want to see them live, i suggest you drop by Friday, Saturday or Sunday, but as always, call or write ahead to make sure we're here.
A huge thanks to David, Wendy, Matthew, Nick, Matt, Davee and Ross for helping us out and just being awesome, and to everyone else who dropped by, thanks for coming! You guys are the best!

Pretty pretty... uhm, i mean gloooomy and scary, of course... ahem...
Allan and fellow Nørrebro tattooer Colin Dale
Sophistimacated peoples
Painting peek
More window decor, cause i liked that a lot
Lisa and Anika posing hard!
I think Bob enjoyed the attention
Dino-photobomb!
Yes, the little statues are for sale too, although we were too busy to price them on Saturday!
I have a feeling Allan might keep this one, though
All wearing the t-shirt of doom and awesomeness!
A little one from the instagrams

Michael Wears His Football Heart on His Sleeve
Last spring, my old friend Michael was up in NYC for a visit. In the early days of Tattoosday, he emailed me out of the blue to share this amazing half-sleeve, which blew my mind, especially since I didn't even know he had tattoos.
Now that he was up for a visit, he shared his other half-sleeve, again throwing me for a loop:
This collage captures the gist of Michael's sleeve, an homage to two of his favorite things, the Manchester United Football Club and zombies.
There's a great sense of humor about the piece, especially the image on the inside of the arm:
That's a commentary on an "American" football player, carrying the ball as if it were the American version of the game of football.
The sleeve also has a small element that pays homage to his wife, Carrie. Behold the smiling sunflower in a field of football-playing zombies:
This amazing sleeve was inked by Eric Doyle at Jinx Proof Tattoos in Washington, D.C.
Thanks again to my friend Michael for sharing this incredible tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!
